About

The Earthworks Macramé studio is focused on creating knotted and woven fiber art which elicits the beauty, simplicity, and geometric symmetry of nature. Non-traditional materials and contemporary techniques are used to create modern, one-of-a-kind cotton and wool pieces which add a warm, textured element to any space.

As the Earthworks label implies, natural materials such as stone, sea glass, found coral, driftwood and organic wool and cotton fibers are integral to the work and are at all times sustainably sourced.

Cate McClure does all the design, weaving and knotting of the pieces. She has extensively studied modern knotting and off-loom weaving techniques and is particularly drawn to the textile richness of the different fibers, which she seeks to emphasize in each piece—sometimes through a complex mix of fibers, and sometimes through the singularity, intensity and minimalism of a single material. Doug McClure cuts all the stone, glass, and found coral used to highlight and accentuate the designs.

Earthworks Macrame’s beautiful tapestries are in homes and businesses across the United States, and in Europe and Canada.
